Supervisory Responsibility for:Practical Nurses

Summary of Job:

Reporting to Nurse Manager/Matron the incumbent is responsible for direct and indirect nursing care and treatment of residents to facilitate the provision of optimum health care in keeping with the aims and objectives of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervisory and Administrative Responsibilities:
Supervise and monitor the performance of Practical Nurses in the execution of their duties

Conduct performance appraisals of Practical Nurses  within the Nursing Department

Conduct assessment of equipment and resources needed for the department and submit same to RN3

Clinical Responsibilities:
Assists in promoting the general Nursing Service of the Home by setting and maintaining a high level of professional standards

Assists the Medical Officer by being present for the examination and treatment for current and new admissions and bring to the attention of the RN3 (if not on duty then the Nursing Supervisor), any matter of concern regarding the residents

Administer medications as directed Observes, records and reports vital signs, symptom changes or reaction to Medication

Educates Practical Nurses as well as Cluster Supervisors of residents who are in need of special medical care while on the cluster

Provides a safe hygienic environment for residents

Assigns specific nursing duties to the Practical  Nurses within the Nursing Department

Interviews and assesses residents and in collaboration with  RN3, refers residents to the internal Medical Practitioner or to hospitals or other health facilities

Treats minor ailments

Gives subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous injections as directed by internal Medical Practitioner

Visit clusters and sees residents as directed by RN3, Nursing Supervisor, the Medical Officer or as requested by the Cluster Supervisor

Assist in the rehabilitation and therapy of residents

Monitor the completion of relevant forms by the Practical Nurses

Monitor the administration of treatment for Wound Care as administered by the Practical Nurses  

Other Duties:
Performs other related duties that may be assigned from time to time

MARs effectively completed

Vital signs reports maintained

Injection administered effectively

Documentations/forms are effectively completed

Referrals of residents are made in a timely manner
High level of professional nursing care maintained

Drugs, medicines and other treatment and procedures are applied as directed

The necessary support given to medical team in the conduct of their duties

Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience  
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from an accredited Institution
Registered with the Nursing Council of Jamaica
Certificate in Caring for the elderly
Three (3) years work experience as a Registered Nurse Experience working with the Elderly population will be an asset
Professional qualification and or certification in Supervisory Management would be an asset  
Liaison
Internal:  
In-house Medical Doctor, Nursing Supervisor, GM, AGM, Operations Manager, Cluster Supervisors, Social Worker, Physiotherapist        
External:
Stakeholders,  Nursing Practicum Students

Emolument : $3,241,533 per annum
